Andrew Sumpter "Buddy" Quick, Jr.

1929 - 1984

Buddy Quick was born in Oklahoma on January 8, 1929 and moved to Wichita, Kansas sometime in the 1930s.  He fudged his age by a year to join the U. S. Navy in February of 1946.  He was discharged in December of 1947 and returned to Wichita where he made his living driving hot rods, jalopies, and eventually sprint cars somewhere in Kansas or Oklahoma nearly every night of the week during the summer months.  In the winter months, he drove a taxi cab for the City Cab Company.  He retired from racing in the late 1950s to become a full time taxi driver.  Buddy moved to Oklahoma City in 1963 where he continued to drive taxis.  He passed away there on May 3, 1984.
