This photo is of the finish of the very first hot rod feature race ever run at Cejay Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.  The date was September 6, 1947.  (They had been racing midgets there all summer.  The attendance had been good but the car counts were low so track owner Carl Johnson decided to try a second division of racing cars on another night of the week.)  #67 Shorty Jones in his own hot rod finished second to #81 Jim Roper whose hot rod was owned by Earl Mills of Newton, Kansas.  The flagman was Tom Herndon – Lies collection
