          Toombs spun out and slid sideways into the outside wall bending the frame and blowing out a tire.  He was able to get the car qualified though.

          A hole “as large as a bathtub” had been developing in the southwest turn of the racetrack for the past few years and filling it with dirt had not solved the problem.  It returned today and promoter Jack Merrick stated that good auto racing could not return to the state fair racetrack until new clay was brought in and the racetrack rebuilt.
