Engine failure |
Time trials were from a running start while this race was flagged off from a standing stop.
Sutton was running among the leaders when his engine failed.
James suffered a front wheel bearing failure on the 118th lap and had to make a pit stop. The bearing and wheel were replaced and he returned to the race.
Cox made a total of 9 pit stops and his six-cylinder Ford engine was only running on 4 cylinders at the end.
Robinson only made one pit stop that coming on the 113th lap for gas and water. Robinson held a 2-lap lead over Ramsey when a tie rod broke in the south turn with 15 laps remaining. Robinson continued but at a reduced speed and Ramsey was able to cut Robinson’s lead to just a quarter of a lap at the finish. Robinson collected $500 from the purse for his victory.
The cars are shown here lined up on the front straight-away preparing for the 100-lap feature race on this afternoon at Hutchinson.
