Just after finishing this race, McWhorter slid into the fence blowing out a tire.

Walt McWhorter winning this race with a Chevrolet V8 over all those Offenhausers became the “shot heard around the world” of automobile racing and, soon, the sport would not be the same again.  This victory brought a lot of fame to Wichita engine builder, Chet Wilson.

Although he started on the pole position, Bill Burdick was one of the first to drop out of the race with mechanical problems.

Just after exiting the second (southeast) turn around the mid-point in the race, Randall crashed out through the fence on the east side of the racetrack.

Funk had just regained the lead of the race around the 150th lap when he crashed out through the north turn fence.

A large crowd of spectators watched a small field of late model stock cars compete in a 100-lap race on this afternoon but very little else is known about those races.  During the 100-lap contest, a 1958 Ford driven by Ramo Stott of Keokuk, Iowa, lost its driveshaft which then punctured his fuel tank catching the car on fire.  Stott was not injured but his car was a total loss.
