The advertisement at left for the stock car races on May 30, 1955 at the Cowley County Fairgrounds at Winfield, Kansas, was published on page 5 of the Winfield Daily Courier of Friday, May 27, 1955. I know that the races were held as various participants have told me how difficult it was to get to Winfield as many of the roads in the Udall, Kansas area were closed due to tornado damage. I have not been successful in learning anything more about this particular racing program though. Anyone with information about the races at Winfield on this date (or any other date) is invited to contact Bob Lawrence at: sprintguy @ cox.net |

Driver introductions before a race. The fans certainly had an unobstructed view of the racing action at Winfield. The car at right was the Pat Lucas owned #57 driven by Bob Newman of Wichita, Kansas. Can anyone identify either of the other cars in this photograph? If so, please contact Bob Lawrence at: sprintguy @ cox.net |
