Charlie Edwin Hiner

1930 - 2013

Charlie Hiner of Wichita, Kansas with the Mercury Flathead V8 rail he raced at Oakley, Kansas in 1962 for car owner Pius Selenke who was also from Wichita.  Other appearances for Hiner in this car were in the National Jalopy Championship at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas (where the car was renumbered “6” for the day) and at ‘81’ Speedway at Wichita, Kansas where this photo was taken – Charlie Hiner collection

This is the first rail that Charlie Hiner drove for Pius Selenke at Oakley, Kansas in 1960 although the car was renumbered “43” before they raced it at Oakley.  This photo was taken at ‘81” Speedway after a minor accident – Charlie Hiner collection

Charlie Hiner told me that his first name really was "Charlie" but that people would not believe that when he told them.  He said they insisted on calling him "Charles" instead.  He was cremated and his ashes are interred in Oak Cemetery at Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
