Giltner crashed into the fence in the southeast turn leaving a gaping hole in the crash wall.
Bowman crashed into the fence on the north turn early in the race leaving a gaping hole in the crash wall.
Winkley slid wide in the southeast turn and would have crashed into the wall except that he was able to guide his car out through the hole made by Giltner’s wreck. Winkley then crashed through the wall again to get back onto the racetrack where he continued going.
Bates’ car slid sideway and into the south turn crashing into the outside fence. Unable to avoid a collision, Mentzer crashed into Bates’ car and the two vehicles became hooked together. The race continued and several more cars were just able to miss the two stalled machines although three of the passer-bys did bump into them. All but the two original victims were able to continue on to the end of the race.
All of the races on this day provided the spectators with a number of thrills as the muddy racetrack led to several minor wrecks as well as near misses.
