A field of eight racing cars was present but only three of them could negotiate the racetrack without trouble

Only three cars attempted to take a time trial and only two of those completed the two laps.

The “Golden Oldfield Special” was probably the former Oldfield car known as the Golden Submarine that had won a feature race on this same racetrack three years earlier.  Leon Duray (1894-1956) had been its driver in that race.

            Two 6-lap heat races were run to determine the starting field for the Kansas Derby.  Waters won one of those heat races handily but no other results of those races have not been located to date.

            Waters “loafed” along in third place until near the end of the race when he easily passed the two cars that he had “allowed” to lead up to that point.

 

 

 

 

 

* Arlo Lyle “Al” Waters (1893-1925) was fatally injured in a racing accident in Detroit, Michigan.
