There was a 16-car pile-up on the back stretch after becoming lost in the thick dust on the 3rd lap of this race.  Three drivers were treated and released from the local hospital.

Holbert took over the lead on the 22nd lap only to be passed by Lies on the final turn.  Lies finished first by just over a car length.  Only nine cars were still running at the finish.

This four-car pileup took place in the first turn on the first lap of the third heat race on this day.  No one was injured but the race had to be restarted for the second time.  The cars in this photo have yet to be identified – Hutchinson News-Herald newspaper
