Returning to the pits after this race, Rigsby ran over a small ridge of dirt in the infield. It was apparently enough to break the magneto putting his #22 Rollins Special out of competition for the remainder of the day.

Wines’ car lost a rear wheel just coming onto the front straightaway on the third lap. His car bounced into the outside wall with the exposed axle clipping a corner post. That caused the transmission to be yanked sideways pinning Wines’ left leg. He was treated for minor injuries.

Reed spun out in the northwest turn on the eleventh lap causing the race to be stopped. Reed was treated for minor burns from hot oil spraying on him in the cockpit. The race was then restarted. The first five places did not change between the time the race was restarted and when the checkered flag fell.
