On the initial start, Carl Vincent’s #79 hit a concrete retaining wall and broke a tie rod.

On the restart start, the field made ¾ of a lap before Pierce crashed into the fence in the north turn.  Due to poor visibility in the dust, Pierce’s accident was the beginning of a 9-car pileup that injured drivers White, Hampton, and McCaslin.

On the next restart, Vincent spun out in the middle of the track causing the flagman to restart the race again.

By the time the race got underway on the fourth try, only 9 cars were running and only 4 cars finished this race.

Jones was in third place when he lost control and crashed through the fence in the north turn.
