Derr took the lead on the 45th lap and held it until lap 195 when he hit a rut in the north turn and peeled a tire off its rim. At the time, he had a 200-yard lead on Brown but was forced to slow down to finish the race.
Harrison broke the left front hub and ended the race on three wheels.
