 Wheeler's car lost a wheel in the north turn.  The tire flew over the fence in the northwest turn, landed about 100 feet from the racetrack and injured two people walking on the fair midway.

This race was scheduled for 15 laps but was stopped on the 12th lap when the cars driven by Johnson and Seeman tangled with Johnson suffering serious burns in the accident.
